These instructions contain important
safety and operating information for
your electronic deodorizer. This
equipment is to be used in unoccupied
areas only. Not for household use.
For commercial use only.
The Activator 500 was designed RAINBOWAIR
with the housekeeper in mind. The lightweight
and easy to use design is the result of years of
use within the hospitality industry. This model is
designed to deodorize areas in a short period of
time using controlled levels of activated oxygen
(ozone). For this reason it is required that
the RAINBOW Activator 500 be used in AIR
unoccupied areas. Using this technology will
eliminate the need for scented sprays and
chemical agents. No sprays of any kind should
be used in conjunction with this unit.
Operating the unit
On the front of the unit there are three controls.
The power switch turns the unit on and o. The
output dial controls the production of ozone from
low (about 50 mg/hr) to medium (about
275mg/hr) to high (about 500mg/hr). The
bottom dial controls how long the unit runs after
being turned on. The minimum amount of time
is about one (1) minute, the maximum time is 1
hour (60 minutes). To operate, plug the unit in,
set the output and timer controls, place the unit
on a dresser or desk (the higher the better), turn
the HVAC system in the room on, turn the
RAINBOWAIR Activator 500 on and leave the
area. The unit will turn itself o after running for
the time period set. Note that the timer control
knob does not move as the unit is running.

DANGER: Elevated ozone levels exist during
operation of the unit. If improperly used by
unqualied personnel, exposure to ozone can be
harmful to health. It may cause eye, nose,
throat and lung irritation or dysfunction. The
following guidelines must be followed:
Set timer, turn unit on, exit room and do not
return until processing time is complete - see
application guide. Do not reset timer in same
room. Use in a room having a minimum volume
of 3600 cubic feet (15' x 30' with 8' ceilings -
about the size of a normal guest room). Close
doorways and openings to other occupied areas
from the room being treated. Operate only one
unit per room. Do not use units in adjacent
rooms or rooms across from each other at the
same time.
CAUTION: in the unlikely event the unit
continues to operate beyond the maximum one-
hour operational period (due to timer failure) the
following guidelines should be used.
1. Enter the area being treated by device.
2. Immediately turn power switch o.
3. Disconnect the power supply cord.
4. Evacuate the treated area and do
not reoccupy the area for 5 hours.
5. Have the device repaired by a qualied
service person.
To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this
equipment has a grounding type plug that has a
third (grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a
grounding type power outlet. If the plug does
not t into the outlet, contact qualied personnel
to install the proper outlet. Do not alter the plug
in any way.
The Housekeeping Plan
After cleaning a room, close the drapes, turn on
the heating/cooling unit, place the
RAINBOWAIR Activator 500 on the tallest piece
of furniture in the room with the front facing the
middle of the room. Set the output and the
timer, turn the unit on, and move to the next
room to be cleaned.
Housekeeping cleans the next room while the
Activator 500 is operating in the previous room.
After cleaning the second room retrieve the
Activator 500 from the previous room and set it
up in the guest room just completed. Continue
the process until all rooms are cleaned.
Assuming the cleaning schedule allots each
housekeeper 15 rooms per day, the
RAINBOWAIR Activator 500 will service 75
rooms per 5 day schedule. It is recommended
that a property have at least one RAINBOWAIR
Activator per 75 rooms.
HINT: Because ozone is heavier than air it is
suggested that the unit be placed as high in the
room as possible. Turn the HVAC fan on which
will help circulate the deodorizing properties of
the Activator. RAINBOWAIR
Converting a smoking room to
non-smoking*
Clean or replace linens, bedspreads, pillows,
draperies, and carpeting. Remove ashtrays and
other signs of it being a smoking room. Set up
the RAINBOWAIR Activator as previously
outlined and set the output to high and the timer
to 60 minutes. Open any doors in the room i.e.
closet and bathroom. Remove any plants from
the room and turn the unit on. Make sure no
people or pets have access to the area. Do
not enter the room for at least 2 hours. After the
waiting period, enter the room and allow it to air
out for 2 hours by opening any windows and
doors. Replace draperies and linens. The
room should be ready for your non-smoking
guests.
CAUTION: the carpeting must be dry
before beginning the deodorizing
process.
*Municipal and or corporate policies over-
ride this suggested procedure.
You are encouraged to maintain your ozone
generator thoroughly. You will receive years
of trouble free service by doing so. Failing
to do so can cost you time and money, and
may void your warranty. Here are some tips:
1. Clean or replace the generator plates
often. or a Use an ultrasonic cleaner
sti bristle brush with soap and water to
clean. Dirty plates produce little ozone and
can cause transformer or generator base
failure.
2. Wipe the grey base material with a
clean lint free rag and rubbing alcohol.
Avoid having contamination build up on the
components.
Trouble shooting
NOTE: Always disconnect the power
cord before attempting maintenance
or repairs.
If the unit does not come on make sure the
power source is hot and the power cord is
seated in the unit properly. Check the circuit
breakers on the rear panel. No white should be
showing on the rocker switch. If white is
showing try to reset the breaker. Call
RAINBOWAIR to help diagnose the problem. If
the unit comes on but does not appear to be
creating ozone remove the top and make sure
the ceramic plates are seated properly between
the metal clips. Also check to see that none of
the plates are broken or cracked. Broken or
cracked plates will prevent ozone from being
produced. Check the circuit breakers as above,
attempting to reset any if they appear tripped.
