General Power Tool Safety Warnings – Personal Safety
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow thewarnings
and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
Theterm ”power tool” in thewarnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power
tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
1) Work area safety
a) Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.Keep work area clean and well lit.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in
thepresence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite thedust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating apower tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match theoutlet. Never modify theplug in any
way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is anincreased risk of electric shock if
your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Water entering apower Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
tool will increase therisk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse thecord. Never use thecord for carrying, pulling or unplugging
thepower tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase therisk of electric shock.
e) When operating apower tool outdoors, use anextension cord suitable for outdoor
use. Use of acord suitable for outdoor use reduces therisk of electric shock.
f) If operating apower tool in adamp location is unavoidable, use aresidual
current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of anRCD reduces therisk of
electric shock.

5) Battery tool use and care
a) Recharge only with thecharger specified by themanufacturer. Acharger that
is suitable for one type of battery pack may create arisk of fire when used with
another battery pack.
b) Use of any Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.
other battery packs may create arisk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like
paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can
make aconnection from one terminal to another. Shorting thebattery terminals
together may cause burns or afire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from thebattery; avoid contact.
If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes,
additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from thebattery may cause
irritation or burns.
6) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by aqualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that thesafety of thepower tool is maintained.
Safety Instructions Specic to Circular Saws
DANGER:
a) Keep your hands at asafe distance from thesaw blade and out of thecutting line.
Keepyour free hand on theauxiliary handle. Ifboth your hands are on thehandles,
you won’t be able to cut yourself.
b) Do not reach under theworkpiece. Theblade guard will not protect you from
theblade underneath theworkpiece.
c) Adjust thecutting depth to suit thethickness of theworkpiece. Theblade should
barely penetrate theworkpiece for safety reasons.
d) Do not hold theworkpiece in your hands or across you leg. Fastentheworkpiece
to astable surface. Itis important that theworkpiece is correctly supported to
minimise therisk of personal injury, to prevent thesaw blade from binding and to
prevent you from losing control of thesaw.
e) Hold theelectrical hand tool by its insulated handles whenever performing tasks
where there is arisk of thesaw cutting through hidden power cables. Contact with
alive wire can lead to themetallic parts of theelectrical hand tool becoming live
and giving theuser anelectric shock.
f) When rip sawing, aparallel fence or straight edge guide should be used.
Thiswillimprove theprecision of thesawing and reduce thechances of
thesawblade binding.
g) Only use arecommended saw blade. Sawblades that do not fit thesaw properly
will rotate eccentrically leading to loss of control over thesaw.
h) Never use damaged or faulty washers or bolts. Thewashers and bolts for
thesaw blade are specially designed to achieve maximum performance and safety.

Additional Safety Instructions for all Saws
Reasons for kickback and preventing kickback
• Kickback is asudden reaction to apinched, jammed or incorrectly aligned saw
blade which causes thesaw to jump back violently out of theworkpiece towards
theuser.
• When thesaw blade binds because thekerf behind theblade is closed, theblade
stops and theunit is ejected back towards theuser.
• If thesaw blade is twisted or distorted in thesaw cut theteeth at theback of
thesaw blade can fasten in theworkpiece and eject it towards theuser.
Kickback is caused by thesaw being used incorrectly, for thewrong purpose or under
thewrong conditions and can be avoided by taking thefollowing precautions.
a) Hold thesaw firmly in both hands and in such away that you can parry any kickbacks.
Standto theside of saw blade, not in line with it. Akickback can cause thesaw to
jump backwards but it can be controlled if certain precautions aretaken.
b) When thesaw blade jams, or if thesawing process is interrupted for some reason,
switch thepower off and hold thesaw still until theblade has completely stopped.
Neverattempt to withdraw thesaw from theworkpiece when theblade is rotating,
as this could cause akickback. Examine and take thenecessary measures to
minimise therisk of blade jamming.
c) When restarting asaw in aworkpiece, centre thesaw blade in thesaw cut and
make sure that theteeth of theblade are not touching thematerial. Ifthesaw
blade has jammed it could wander upwards or be ejected from theworkpiece
when thesaw is restarted.
d) Support large boards to reduce therisk of thesaw blade binding or kicking back.
Largeboards tend to sag under their own weight. Theboards need to be
supported on both sides, near thesaw cut and near theedge of theboard.
e) Do not use blunt or damaged saw blades. Bluntor incorrectly set saw blades can
produce saw cuts that are too narrow, producing too much friction and causing
thesaw blade to bind or thesaw to kickback.
f) Thecutting depth and angle adjusters must be locked in place before sawing
begins. Ifany of thesaw blade setting adjusters moves during cutting theblade
could jam or thesaw could kickback.
g) Be especially careful when plunge sawing in walls or objects where it is not
possible to see what one is sawing. Theprotruding saw blade could cut into
objects that could cause kickbacks.
Safety Instructions for Saws Fitted with Inner Blade Guard
a) Make sure that thelower blade guard is properly closed before each use. Donot
use thesaw if thelower blade guard does not move freely and close immediately.
Neverclamp or bind thelower blade guard in theopen position. Ifthesaw is
accidentally dropped thelower blade guard can become damaged. Liftthelower
blade guard using thehandle and make sure that it can move freely without
touching thesaw blade or any other part of thesaw in any of thesaw’s cutting
angles and depths.

ENGLISH

b) Make sure that thespring on thelower blade guard works. Iftheguard or spring
do not work properly they must be repaired before thesaw is used. Thelower
guard can stick due to damaged parts, sticky deposits or abuild-up of sawdust.
c) Thelower blade guard may only be moved to theside for special operations
such as plunge sawing and compound sawing. Movethelower guard to theside
using thehandle and as soon as thesaw blade makes contact with thematerial
thelower guard must be released. Forall other sawing thelower guard must work
automatically.
d) Always make sure that thelower blade guard is covering theblade before laying
thesaw on abench or thefloor. Anuncovered rotating saw blade can cause
thesaw to move backwards and saw through everything in its path. Bearin mind
that it takes time for thesaw blade to come to astop after thepower switch has
been released.
• Tie theworkpiece down if it is not held in place by its own weight.
• Use adust extractor when using thecircular saw.
Safety Warnings for battery pack
a) Do not dismantle, open or shred cells or battery pack.
b) Do not short-circuit abattery pack. Do not store battery packs haphazardly
in abox or drawer where they may short-circuit each other or be short-
circuited by conductive materials. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away
from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small
metal objects, that can make aconnection from one terminal to another. Shorting
thebattery terminals together may cause burns or afire.
c) Do not expose battery pack to heat or fire. Avoid storage in direct sunlight.
d) Do not subject battery pack to mechanical shock.
e) In theevent of battery leaking, do not allow theliquid to come into contact
with theskin or eyes. If contact has been made, wash theaffected area with
copious amounts of water and seek medical advice.
f) Seek medical advice immediately if acell or battery pack has been swallowed.
g) Keep battery pack clean and dry.
h) Wipe thebattery pack terminals with aclean dry cloth if they become dirty.
i) Battery pack needs to be charged before use. Always refer to this instruction
and use thecorrect charging procedure.
j) Do not maintain battery pack on charge when not in use.
k) After extended periods of storage, it may be necessary to charge and
discharge thebattery pack several times to obtain maximum performance.
l) Battery pack gives its best performance when it is operated at normal room
temperature (20 ± 5 °C).
m) When disposing of battery packs, keep battery packs of different
electrochemical systems separate from each other.
n) Recharge only with thespecified charger. Do not use any charger other than
that specifically provided for use with theequipment.
Acharger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create arisk of fire
when used with another battery pack.
